Where to buy games in South Florida

Loved the new games you discovered at FlaMinGoCon? Or that you see pictured here or on our Facebook page? Here are some recommendations on where you can go buy your own. Do us a favor, TELL the folks at the store you are buying a game from them because you went to FlaMinGoCon or saw the game on the FlaMinGoCon website. :-) Thanks. If you need instant gratification: In Pompano Beach, you can find GXE Games, the closest store to West Palm Beach that focuses primarily on games. The comic book store Past Present Future on Military Trail in WPB sells quite a few popular games. Tates Comics, in Lauderhill down in Broward County and now in Boynton Beach near the mall, also carries games. Barnes and Noble carries quite a few games too. But if you can hit up one of these local businesses, that'd be nicer, right? If you're looking for much better prices, or really popular games (like Splendor and Camel Up), or new releases, online shopping is the way to go. Of course, there's Amazon. But the best option, often for price and definitely for supporting a smaller business, is a website called CoolStuffInc.com. Cool Stuff Games are their Brick-and-mortar stores in Maitland, Winter Park, Jacksonville, and Hollywood.

Tell them Phil Mingo sent ya'!

The winners

Obviously there were a LOT of winners at the January 24th event, as each game played had at least one winner. However let's highlight the special winners of our Play To Win Games and Tournaments. Congratulations to Gavin (Night of the Octopus), Gen (Resistance), Elisabeth (Jungle Speed) and Lynne (RoboRally) for trying out new games and entering the drawings to win these games. We plan to have more Play To Win opportunities at the  next con, and hopefully some brand spanking new releases if we are lucky! And on to our tourneys... The RoboRally tournament had 4 entrants, so was a one-game affair. Brave Katie & Glenn had just learned the game in the morning. Phil stated his attitude was "Someone has to come in last." Kevin swept to victory in his favorite game, and treasures his FlaMinGoCon trophy that he can put a candle in -- or put a pink rubber ducky in. 10941861_342694259251272_6968907435047011293_n10931008_342694269251271_6613772048353866359_n Our Splendor Tournament had 16 entrants, which meant 4 games for the first round of the single elimination, then the 4 winners continuing to the second round. Adam (with hand to head in photo) emerged victorious! Sadly by the end of the con, we started being too tired to take photos (sorry)! 9002_342693605918004_1731371865980451882_n Congratulations to you all! Looking forward to new adventures in tournaments at the  next minicon!

Photos of FlaMinGoCon The First

We could not be more pleased with the turnout and experience of our first minicon. Great games, great volunteers, great attendees, great attitudes and -- thankfully!  -- great weather. Play to Win games!

A special feature of FlaMinGoCon the First will be a special type of raffle called Play To Win. We will have 4 games in our library -- RoboRally, Resistance, Jungle Speed and Night of the Grand Octopus -- available to win. How it works is: 1. You play the game. 2. If you like it, you and anyone else who played it can write your names and contact info on a slip of paper to go in a corresponding jar. 3. At the end of the con, that exact game that was played will be given to one of the people who entered. You do not need to be present to win, but you do have to leave  contact information. Basically: Try it before you (maybe) win it! You enter for all four games by playing all four of these games, but you can only enter once for each game.

More clarity on directions to this weekend’s con

The address of the church is 211 Trinity Place. Following your GPS to this address WILL get you to Holy Trinity, but the opposite side of the building from the entrance we are using. The entrance for the parish hall is facing Tanglewood, which is the street that runs between the church and the tall white towers (Trump Plaza). If you don't see the parking lot -- keep going around the church. You are looking for this: You can find it from Flagler or from Tanglewood, which runs between Flagler and Olive. 1794523_827153184014055_2562975886918999195_n We will have signs guiding you as well.

Directions to Flamingocon the First

Google map directions to location of 10 hour gaming day in downtown West Palm Beach! Between that pink building and the two white Trump Plaza towers. Downtown-West-Palm-Beach-Intracoastal If you see this church below while on Flagler Blvd, you are in the right place! (Yes, our event is at a church, but FlaMinGoCon is a secular event and everyone is welcome. This church is just nice enough to rent us a nice sized hall with plenty of parking.) 1912220_662370857158956_2036211304_n Following GPS to the address, 211 Trinity Place, will get you on the SOUTH side of the church. The entrance you are looking for is on the NORTH side of the church --   facing a small street called Tanglewood. If you don't see a big parking lot with a big tree... keep going around the church. In the back is the entrance to the parish hall. Look for the red awning behind this tree. 1794523_827153184014055_2562975886918999195_n
